I’m obsessive when it comes to keeping a clean desktop/workspace as well as maintaining an organized system for photographs and design files. Personally, I like to use Adobe Bridge when it comes to organizing stuff for designs. You get to see thumbnails of files including Psd, Ai, etc. You can also apply keywords, sub keywords, and collections, so it’s easy to search through files.
